Move over Google Earth! This great new FREE software is called Marble and it is proving to be a very handy tool for teaching Geography and History!
What I like about this program is that it allows the user to apply different themes to the globe in order to view a range of information such as temperature, precipitation, historical maps and many more! Additionally, the atlas features allow students to research information about certain countries such as population, land features, scale and bearings.
For the history classroom, what better way to show how the world was mapped prior to satellite technology. If the society from the time period you are studying believed the earth was flat, then simply change the map view from 'globe' to 'flat map' or 'Mercator'!
